The problem of water scarcity has been neglected for a long time. Investments are being made in infrastructure that is inappropriate, expensive, and of poor quality. Projects of this type are like highways - great value, big companies. However, they are more visible on highways because we pass through them every day. This was stated by the former Minister of Environment and Waters Borislav Sandov in the program "Face to Face" on bTV.
Sandov noted that 10% of the settlements were in a water crisis this year.
According to calculations by "Green Movement", about 7.2% of the population are affected. The main problem is management weakness, climate change is a reinforcing factor, the former minister believes.
"There would be water for everyone if we had a good network that would carry water from the water source to the users. We have poor infrastructure, we have about 60% losses. 1/3 of the water sources have meters, which creates the prerequisites for water theft", he also said.
In his words, the main responsibility lies with the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. "Water and Sewerage is under the umbrella of the MRBB, in my opinion they do not belong there. The problem is in the MRDPW. What is being proposed for the water board will not solve the problem. Structural reform is required, because we are failing as a state to provide something basic for people and business", Sandov also pointed out.
