During today's tour, part of the initiative "Parliament goes to the people", in the settlements of Sofia-region, the member of parliament from "Vazrazhdane" - Angel Slavchev, received congratulations from the people he met because he directly told the members of parliament from other parties that they do not deserve their salaries, since they do not go to work. Slavchev was in the National Assembly, because as "Vazrazhdane" announced in advance - in September they will hold hundreds of meetings in every region and the representatives of the political organization will enter the plenary hall only if by some miracle their bill comes up for consideration, there is a vote of no confidence or a parliamentary question. Here is what happened on Friday during the parliamentary control.
With irony towards the almost empty plenary hall, the representative of the people, Angel Slavchev, began his question. "I see that you live well in the parliament without "Vazrazhdane". For the first time, parliamentary control begins at 10:15. In a little while, you can go home to rest.", he addressed the deputies, before raising the topic of the state of the Bulgarian Army's building stock with the Minister of Defense.
"As a member of parliament from the 26th MIR Sofia-region, I regularly travel on the road between Musachevo and Elin Pelin, where military formation 42600 is located. The building stock there is in a deplorable state. The most striking is the roof of the main building next to the road - in critical condition, with a huge hole that has been expanding for years. Back in 2022, Google Maps documented this decay. This not only compromises the functionality of the facility, but also undermines the authority and dignity of the Bulgarian Army.", Slavchev emphasized from the podium.
He recalled that the defense budget amounts to billions, but despite this, the army faces humiliating problems: "Since you have been minister, over 8 billion leva have passed through the Ministry of Defense, but no money has been found for a roof. How does our army look to the people, when thousands pass by this crumbling building every day?"
The People's Representative from "Vazrazhdane" posed a second question - about the security of military sites on the Internet: "What measures will you take to delete all images and photos of military sites from Internet platforms, because this undermines the security and dignity of the Bulgarian Army?"
In his response, the Minister of Defense announced that some of the buildings in the formation will be repaired, and others will be removed, as they are no longer needed and have a compromised structure. The building mentioned by Slavchev is scheduled for demolition. Regarding the second question, the Minister assured that an organization has been created for "masking and depersonalization" of military sites when filming from space and digital systems, with the list of specific areas to be finalized and deposited with the EU institutions.
Angel Slavchev sharply retorted: "Mr. Zapryanov, out of 8 billion for defense, 14 million are needed for building repairs and you have not been able to allocate these funds in two years. If necessary, let's do a campaign with caps to fix the roof in Musachevo. This is a shame for the army and a disgrace for the state."
He added that the condition of the building symbolizes the collapse in the sector: "This hole in the roof is a hole in the dignity of the Bulgarian Army. Since 2021, the roof has been collapsing, and you have not found time to fix it. Instead of protecting the battle flags, as our army has always done, your management has disgraced the institution. And that is why the most correct decision is resignation."
