An analysis of the equipment of the Belene NPP must be urgently carried out, can it be used by another European country? This project must be developed, recommended Eng. Bogomil Manchev, member of the Board of the Bulgarian Atomic Forum "Bulatom", in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio.
"By 2051, we should have 4 large operating nuclear power units in Bulgaria. 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy NPP – New capacities will compensate for energy from coal-fired power plants. I accept that they will keep the operating units until 2038, but in 2047 and 2051, units 4 and 5 of the Kozloduy NPP must be completed, because according to the contract their operation ends, he explained in the program "Before Everyone".
Bogomil Manchev pointed out that unit 6 of Kozloduy is operating at 100% and our units are leaders in the world, because the 6th one did 10 years without triggering emergency protection.
He explained that units 7 and 8 are not Kozloduy NPP, but another company - Kozloduy NPP New capacities and enough money has been poured in there. Their construction will cost about 14 - 15 billion dollars, and in his opinion, the total will be 18 - 19 billion dollars.
They will be built by "Westinghouse" and South Koreans - "Hyundai", and there is a procedure for signing with the third consultant – technical, after they have signed with legal and financial.
In order to return the investment, units 7 and 8 must operate for 30 years at a cost of electricity of 25 - 30 euros per megawatt-hour.
