Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov and the Minister of Transport of Montenegro Maja Vukicevic signed an agreement on cooperation in aviation, the press center of the transport ministry announced. This happened within the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and the delegation led by him to Montenegro.

The signing of the declaration marked the start of joint actions to open a direct airline between the two countries. “This is the first important step towards opening a direct air route between our two countries, and our ambition is to make it a reality as soon as possible“, said Deputy Prime Minister Karadjov.

A joint expert working group has already been established to prepare the route, with the participation of the transport ministries, aviation administrations, airport operators, as well as an air carrier from the Montenegrin side.

During the bilateral meeting, the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Bulgaria will provide full assistance to any air carrier wishing to operate direct flights between the two countries.

“Bulgarian airport operators offer schemes to stimulate air carriers that launch new destinations. "Carriers from Montenegro could benefit from these incentives," Karadjov added.

The two ministers also discussed strengthening transport connectivity in the region, with an emphasis on accelerating infrastructure projects. The Bulgarian side presented its experience in concessioning transport infrastructure facilities - including ports and airports, which could be useful for Montenegrin partners.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister is on a two-day visit to Montenegro starting today. He held a one-on-one meeting with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, and the focus of the talks was the excellent bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest, as well as Montenegro's path to EU membership, regional cooperation and security, and partnership within NATO, the Council of Ministers announced.

Bulgaria is a constant supporter of Montenegro's European perspective, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in Podgorica and after signing documents between the two countries.
