A bear entered the monastery "St. Spas" near Sopot last night. It strangled three lambs and left with the fourth. A small bear cub was also spotted. In the morning, the monastery employees and visitors came across the sight, Nova TV reported.
Recently, the bear has been spotted descending into yards in the villa area of Manastirski Livadi. It is dangerous for tourists who go for a walk in the Balkans, as well as for those living in the villas. Workers from the VMZ said that a few days ago, people who were going to the first shift saw a bear with a cub on an alley in the workshop in Iganovo and were extremely scared.
The mayor of the municipality of Sopot, Stanislav Stoenchev, who is familiar with the problem, announced that today he is sending letters to the Hunting and Fishing Society in Karlovo and to the Karlovo Forestry Department to shoot the bear.
The director of the Karlovo Forestry Department, Eng. Zlatyu Klichev, announced that he is aware of the incident and will take the necessary measures.
The bear population in Bulgaria has increased enormously, no measures are being taken to control the situation throughout the country and this is dangerous for people and domestic animals, ecologists commented.
