Nearly 700,000 landlords to be fined for not paying taxes - 1

About 700,000 people who have not submitted a declaration of income from rental housing , were found in Turkey, announced the head of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic, Mehmet Şimşek.

"Inspections have started on about 1.5 million real estates, of which over 400,000 addresses have already been checked. Based on the results of the work carried out, fine notices were issued in the amount of 153.4 million pounds (4.5 million USD). A total of around 700,000 landlords who have not submitted rental income declarations have been identified by the tax authorities”, the minister was quoted as saying by the Haberturk TV channel.

Since the beginning of the current year, authorities have informed landlords of the need to declare income as part of a campaign to combat people receiving undeclared income from rental properties. Particular attention is paid to residential rental properties above a certain threshold, short-term rentals, as well as commercial properties.

In total, the tax authorities sent reminders to nearly 1 million taxpayers, including those who received rent money but did not file income tax returns. The government will continue to fight tax evaders to “guarantee the fairness of the tax system” and reducing the budget deficit.
