A case of distribution of pornographic materials with the participation of minors and underage persons was revealed by officers of the "Computer Crimes" sector at the "Economic Police" department of the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs, together with the "Cyber Crime" Directorate at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Prevention of Crime and Prevention.
The investigation began after receiving operational information about an IP address used to share such content on the Internet, Chief Inspector Ivaylo Velichkov, Head of the "Computer Crimes" sector at the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs, announced at a briefing in the SDVR, quoted by BNT.
"Numerous operational-search and computer-technical measures were carried out, as a result of which the exact physical address from which this IP address is used was established", he announced. The collected materials in the case were reported to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office.
"Pre-trial proceedings were initiated, in which permits for search and seizure were requested and obtained", Velichkov specified.
During a search of a two-story house in Sofia, a 29-year-old man was found at the address, unknown to the Ministry of Interior authorities until now, who lives alone in the property, which he owns.
"During the search, numerous computer configurations, laptops and digital media containing materials with pornographic content, in which minors and underage persons are visibly involved, were seized.
At the moment, there is no information that the materials were filmed by the detainee, nor confirmed information whether the children in the recordings are Bulgarian citizens. In all likelihood, the content was downloaded from foreign websites using specialized software.
"The materials are to be reported to the regional prosecutor's office and numerous expert examinations will be ordered in order to establish the exact content of the materials found in the seized material evidence", Chief Inspector Ivaylo Velichkov also specified.
Checks have also been carried out on the man's financial flows, but the police refuse to provide details, as the investigation is ongoing.
The man has been detained for 24 hours.
