The Sofia Court of Appeal will rule on the case of the death of 33-year-old Evgenia, whose body was found in a suitcase in a pond at the end of 2021.
The defendants for the murder are the victim's husband Orlin Vladimirov and his father Plamen Vladimirov.
At first instance, the Sofia City Court imposed life sentences, which were later confirmed by the Court of Appeal. However, the case was returned by the Supreme Court of Cassation for a new hearing by the Sofia Court of Appeal due to procedural violations.
The pleadings in the case were held on February 12. The court has accepted that the evidence collected in the case is sufficient and that no new interrogations or hearings of experts are required, the court announced. The magistrates are expected to deliver their verdict today.
Today and tomorrow, the Pleven District Court will hear the case of the accident in which 12-year-old Siyana died on March 31 last year. The accused is 65-year-old Georgi Alexandrov.
So far, six court hearings have been held in the case. Witnesses and experts who prepared psychological, psychiatric and forensic expert reports have been questioned. The conclusion of the auto-technical expert report, which is key to clarifying the mechanism of the accident, is expected.
The accused Georgi Alexandrov has multiple violations of the Road Traffic Act and has been sanctioned several times, including deprivation of the right to drive a motor vehicle. He is currently being held in custody.
