A 77-year-old woman was defrauded of thousands of leva in a telephone scam in the city of Targovishte, the police announced.
On January 18, at around 6 p.m., the 77-year-old woman was deceived on her landline phone that a sum of money was needed for an operation for a loved one. The woman threw an envelope with the sum of 16,400 leva over the terrace of the apartment building in which she lived.
Subsequently, the money transporter, who was hired over the Internet to provide car services and transport documents, became suspicious and informed the law enforcement authorities.
In this way, the aforementioned amount was stored and is about to be returned to its owner.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
