During a specialized police operation conducted by officers of the 7th Regional Police Department of the Sofia Internal Affairs Directorate, the leader of a criminal group operating in the capital's "Student City" was detained, BNT reports.
The arrested person is known in criminal circles by the nickname Pesho Kalashnika and is considered one of the leaders of a group known as "Kalashniks".
According to sources, the organization has been operating for nearly a year, and its main activity included persuading people to prostitution, physical violence and systematic harassment of young women, mainly students.
According to testimonies from residents of the neighborhood, the members of the group demonstrated a high standard of living, drove luxury cars and used influence and threats to subjugate their victims.
About 10 days ago Pesho The Kalashnik was attacked and severely beaten in front of a restaurant in the area, probably by competitors, which further activated the law enforcement agencies.
As part of the investigation, testimonies were collected from victims, who indicated that members of the "Kalashniks" regularly used violence against citizens, boasting that they acted with impunity.
With today's operation and the detention of one of the leaders of the group, the Ministry of Interior is giving a clear signal that such actions will not be tolerated. The investigation continues, and work to identify and detain the remaining members of the organization is underway.
Residents of "Studentski Grad" call on all victims or witnesses of the group's criminal activity to report and cooperate with the investigation.
