A final conviction of 20 years in prison has been handed down for a son who killed his mother in a particularly torturous manner, the Blagoevgrad District Prosecutor's Office announced.
As of 2020, the convicted man lived with his 81-year-old mother in Sandanski. For years, the man had been mentally and physically harassing the elderly woman, which she refused to report to the police.
The reason for the harassment was the inherited property, as the son insisted that his mother transfer her share to him during her lifetime. He became particularly aggressive after drinking alcohol.
In the late hours of March 11, 2020, the man returned home intoxicated. He again raised the issue of the properties in a conversation with his mother, behaving rudely towards her.
After two hours of verbal abuse, he began to hit her hard with his hands and feet on her face, head and body. The victim suffered bleeding from her mouth, nose and hand.
Leaving her in a miserable physical and mental state, the abuser went to sleep.
After waking up the next day, he went to his mother. He saw that she had bruises on her face and neck, dried blood on her mouth, but despite this, he caused a scandal and beat her again.
A few hours later, the woman was found in a helpless state. The police were notified of the incident, and the victim was transported to the hospital. Despite doctors' attempts to save her, she died.
The 62-year-old man will serve the 20-year prison sentence under an initial strict regime.
