The legendary British saxophonist Dick Parry has died at the age of 83. His death was announced by his longtime friend and Pink Floyd guitarist, David Gilmour.

Parry is not an official member of the band, but his contribution is fundamental to the sound of some of their greatest masterpieces. His work is the iconic saxophone performances on the historic albums The Dark Side of the Moon (1973) and Wish You Were Here (1975).

His music remains immortal through the solo parts in the world hits "Money", "Us and Them" and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond".

After a long hiatus and withdrawal from the music industry, Gilmour invited him back in 1994 for the album The Division Bell (on the song "Wearing the Inside Out") and the subsequent large-scale tour.

He appeared on stage with Pink Floyd during their historic reunion for the Live 8 charity concert in 2005.

During his long career as a session musician, Dick Parry also worked with big names such as the rock band The Who, Violent Femmes and Rory Gallagher.
