Any comment of a normal person in relation to the wounding of Donald Trump at a campaign rally in the US requires by definition his mandatory condemnation. This applies especially to his opponents – at least out of caution not to encourage such a retaliatory strike against themselves.

It would sound like bad taste and lack of imagination if a fantasy writer had invented a guy with the last name Crooks to shoot the White House candidate. Because this word in English unambiguously means a crook, a bad person. It's too tasteless to imagine a crook and bad guy trying to kill the (candidate) president.

And yet the reality is this: 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot and wounded spectacularly, but safely for his life, the most hated and most loved businessman and politician in the most powerful country in the world. It almost made him a co-destined fellow of historical giants like Lincoln or Kennedy. Almost. So "almost" that there will be people who will read it almost "on purpose".

It's not in anyone's power to guarantee that they can just shoot someone in the corner of the ear and be sure it won't kill them. There is no such movie. So this is attempted murder. But his failure has the opposite effect. No doubt.

The breathless reports after the attack that Trump is fine don't tell the whole truth. He is not just well, but in excellent political health, and we can have no doubt that he will make the most of it for his campaign purposes. Another may wonder whether it was right to encourage free access to firearms until now, but we cannot expect such remorse from Trump. He is an undisputed target of an assassination attempt, narrowly escaped death, and that will make him step up, not make excuses.

Trump is in the clear without this drama, which could become a tragedy for his opponents, insofar as it reduces their chances of attacking him and stopping him on his way to rematch. Thomas, who was killed by security at the rally, is the object of much greater interest to be investigated to understand what drives a young man, almost a child (by American standards of the term “adult"), to decide on such a suicidal act. mission. From the first reviews of him, he doesn't seem crazy or insane (those are two different things). Ergo: he realized that there was no way to avoid returning fire on himself. And whether he hoped to survive, however, we will probably never know.

Is it possible that the desire to become famous at any cost motivates you to risk your life in a way that guarantees you at least a life sentence, and in the event that by some miracle you are spared the police bullets?

That's the scary question, I think. His possible positive answer should not be spoken aloud. Would inspire others to do so.

The wound on American public life and the growing antagonism between its two halves is too fresh to be diagnosed by prognosis. The task of politicians and influential voices in this country is to calm passions.

Civil peace in the country now depends on the success of such an effort, where any internal instability could detonate tectonic aftershocks across the planet.

Alas, this is the case where we must not delude ourselves about “where are we". “We" we are not America. For better or worse, the world does not depend on the upheavals in our politics. However, we have also been shocked by assassinations, including the death of a former prime minister, such as Lukanov. In this sense, it will not suit us to gloat that something like this is happening there.

We will monitor and hope that the storm passes (for us).
