We have received a tragic illustrative example of what functional illiteracy is.
One of the two young women who jumped from the window of a moving train at the Klisura station is already dead.
It doesn't matter if they didn't manage to open the door of the carriage in time. Throwing yourself off a moving train by jumping through a window (or through a forcibly opened door) is not just stupidity, it is a complete absence of critical thinking and connection with reality.
There is no youthful folly in such an action - this is madness that has ended irreversibly.
Everyone can be blamed for such an absurd action - from Indiana Jones to any online or phone game with many possible lives, despite the mistakes.
For years, it has been quoted in our country that about 40% of young people are functionally illiterate, but we rarely linked their severe injuries and death to their unsuitability for real life. Well - now the example is for a textbook.
What would happen if someone missed their station and took a ride to the next one? Yes - they will have to wait, look for other transport, but everything will be over within that day. And now, for one of the two women, who has barely begun her adult life, there are no more days left. Only her relatives will weep and ask the simplest question: Why did they do such a stupid thing?
A subject on virtues will begin to be taught in schools. However, common sense is not taught in school, it is not taught how valuable it is to be adequate and responsible for one's own life and that of others.
Day after day we read about broken skulls, smashed cars, maimed and dead young people - teenagers and predominantly between the ages of 18 and 24.
The irreversible tragedy with the 20-year-old woman who jumped from a train is like a stamp for the reality related to functional inadequacy and the lack of basic common sense, which is an integral part of the general culture.
For the month of AUGUST only:
- Nikola Burgazliev, who crushed five people (one victim is in an irreversible condition) is 18.
- The killer with the flying car in Sofia is 21 years old.
- A 17-year-old youth was caught in Smolyan for driving after drinking alcohol and without a driver's license.
- An 18-year-old young man loses control of his car, goes off the road and crashes outside the roadway. A 17-year-old girl and a 20-year-old boy die on the spot.
- A 20-year-old driver died in a serious accident in Plovdiv. The driver was driving a car that hit a pole. As a result of the impact, the car spun around a pole.
- A 15-year-old boy is in danger of his life after a 20-year-old driver swept him with his car on a sidewalk in the village of Dolni Bogrov.
- A drunk 26-year-old man crashed into an apartment building in Sofia.
In July, a 19-year-old killed three people at once by driving his car into them in a restaurant.
These are the real results of functional illiteracy. This is already our life today and the terrible is yet to come.
