Sergio Ramos leaves Mexico

Sergio Ramos, who played for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, confirmed that he will not renew his contract with Mexican team Monterrey, where he has been playing since February, AFP and BTA reported.

The 39-year-old defender, who is also a two-time European champion and has won the Champions League four times with Real, is retiring after his team was eliminated in the semifinals of the Apertura, Mexico's winter championship.

"Yes, that was my last match", Ramos told Mexican television after the loss to Toluca. Last week, the local press had already revealed that Ramos had no intention of renewing his contract.

Ramos hopes to return to Europe so that he can compete for a place in the Spanish team for the 2026 World Cup. The Spanish player signed a contract with Monterrey in February, playing 27 matches for the team, scoring 6 goals. He also played in the Club World Cup, where Monterrey was eliminated in the round of 16 by German side Borussia Dortmund.
