Federica Brignone takes the title in the women's giant slalom - 1

The Italian won her second title from the home Olympic Games at the 2026 Winter Olympics, after she grabbed the gold in the giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Thus, she added a new trophy to her distinction from the super-G slalom, won earlier in the week, reports BTA.

Brignone led after the first run with a time of 1:03.23 minutes. In the second, she gave the 14th result, but the accumulated lead turned out to be enough. With a total time of 2:13.50 minutes, the Italian left Sarah Hector and Thea Louise Stiernesund, who shared the silver medal, 0.62 seconds behind her. A curious fact is that Hector – Olympic champion from the 2022 Winter Olympics – and Stiernesund recorded exactly the same times in both runs.

Lara Della Mea remained one step away from the podium. The Italian climbed from 15th to fourth place after a strong second run, but only five hundredths of a second deprived her of a medal. Julia Scheib finished 0.02 seconds behind her, and Mina Holtmann formed the top six with a deficit of 0.74 seconds.

The record holder for victories in the World Cup Mikaela Shiffrin failed to show her usual level and finished the race in 11th position. The American was seventh after the first run, but in the second she gave only the 13th time. Sofia Godzha also performed disappointingly, finishing tenth, despite being in third place after the first run.

Swiss Anina Zurbriggen, competing for Bulgaria, failed to secure a place after being eliminated in the first run.
