Borussia Dortmund and sporting director Sebastian Kehl have mutually agreed to terminate their cooperation, the German club officially announced, BTA reported.
The decision was taken unanimously by Borussia management and the now former sporting director today.
„In a very open discussion, Sebastian Kehl, Carsten Kramer and I came to the common conclusion that the summer is the right time for a change. In order to give both parties the opportunity to prepare, we have mutually agreed to terminate Sebastian's contract with immediate effect. He has made a huge contribution to our club and we are very grateful for his great commitment“, commented Dortmund's managing director Lars Ricken.
Former Borussia captain Sebastian Kehl took over in the summer of 2022 and was part of the team's run to the Champions League final in 2024.
“Sebastian's departure naturally represents a significant change in our sporting management. In order to accelerate the changes we need to implement in preparation for the new season and also to give Sebastian time to consider the next steps in his professional future, this separation is the logical step at this time. We would like to thank him for his commitment, dedication and achievements and wish him all the best for his future,” said Carsten Kramer, a representative of the club’s management.
“Borussia Dortmund has been part of half my life and I have an extremely strong connection with this great club. However, we have now come to the conclusion together that it is time to move on – both for Borussia and for me. Lars, Carsten and I came to this decision today after a constructive conversation. I owe a lot to Borussia Dortmund and am proud to have been part of the Borussia family for around 24 years. During this time I have been able to celebrate so many incredible successes with the club, its employees and its fantastic fans and I will forever be proud to be part of the club’s history. The foundations have been laid and I wish the club all the best in the restructuring and continued success. Borussia Dortmund, the incredible stadium and the South Stand will always hold a special place in my heart. It was an honor for me“, says Sebastian Kell in a statement.
