Lando Norris (McLaren) set the fastest lap during the third and final practice before the Canadian Grand Prix. Behind Norris were his main rivals Charles Leclerc from Ferrari and George Russell from Mercedes. His teammate Oscar Piastre crashed, BTA reports.
Shortly after the start of the session, the first dramatic moment occurred, after Piastre collided with Nico Hulkenberg from Kick Sauber and the contact sent the Australian into the barriers. After the red flag was removed, the times improved significantly and Russell led with 1:11.950 minutes, followed by Lewis Hamilton and Norris on medium tires. Max Verstappen was fourth, despite having problems with the braking system.
However, in the final minutes, the soft compound tires came into play, and with them Norris recorded the record lap of the day of 1:11.799 minutes. Leclerc was 0.078 seconds behind, and Russell was third, 0.151 seconds behind. At the checkered flag, Hamilton was fourth, and Verstappen was fifth.
