George Russell set the fastest time in the first free practice of Formula 1 before the Austrian Grand Prix, with which the Mercedes driver continued his good series of victories in Canada, BNR reported.
He finished ahead of world champion Max Verstappen and the leader in the drivers' standings Oscar Piastre.
The first practice session at the "Red Bull Ring" also included some new faces, including Alex Dunn. The leader in the Formula 2 standings replaced Lando Norris in the McLaren car, becoming the first Irishman on the track in 22 years. He impressed with a fourth time, 0.224 seconds behind. Dino Beganovic replaced Charles Leclerc at Ferrari.
Dunn was among the first on track in a weekend where his car and a number of others tested their updates. The Irishman was the only one on soft compound tyres at the start, with the others on medium and hard.
