Aryna Sabalenka reached the fourth round of “Wimbledon” after defeating Britain's Emma Ruducanu 7:6 (6), 6:4, BTA reports. It took Sabalenka exactly two hours to enter the second week of Wimbledon for the third time.
Aryna showed exceptional character, after trailing by one game in each set when breaking, but she escaped and imposed an advantage. In the first part, Sabalenka saved a set point in the tiebreak, and in the second she was on a point from being 1:5 behind. Sabalenka reflected the break point, equalized and then closed her serve. The real key moment turned out to be the breakthrough to 3:4, because until the end the number 1 in the rankings did not leave much of a chance to the Briton.
Her next opponent will be Elise Mertens (Belgium), who eliminated Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) with 6:1, 7:6 (4).
