Sabalenka beats Mertens and is in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elise Mertens (Belgium) 6:4, 7:6(4) and qualified for the quarterfinals of "Wimbledon", reports BTA. The No. 1 seeded Sabalenka already has 11 wins in 13 matches against Mertens. Today's Belarusian squandered a 4:1 lead in the first set, then quickly cleaned up the problems and finished the part with her second break. The second set went through a tiebreak, in which Sabalenka recorded five mini-breaks and won on the first match point.

Sabalenka will meet 37-year-old Laura Ziegemund in her next match. The German, the oldest remaining tennis player in the schedule, stopped the winning streak of "happy loser" Solana Sierra with 6:3, 6:2.
