Romania has scrambled two F-16 fighter jets after a drone violated the country's airspace during a Russian attack on Ukrainian infrastructure near the border, the Romanian Defense Ministry said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
The Romanian ministry's statement said that residents of the southeastern Tulcea region, which is located near the Danube River and the Ukrainian border, were urged to take cover.
The ministry added that the fighter jets detected and tracked the drone, which subsequently disappeared from radar about 20 km southwest of the village of Chilia Veche.
"The drone did not fly over populated areas and did not pose an immediate danger to the population," it also said in the statement.
Earlier today, Poland said it had scrambled fighter jets for a "preventive" operation due to the threat of drone strikes in nearby Ukrainian areas.
