The far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) is ahead of the conservative Christian Democratic/Christian Social Union bloc in a poll published today by the INSA institute, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Public support for the AfD has increased by one percentage point compared to last week and reached 26%, according to the results of the poll, commissioned by the "Bild" newspaper. This is the highest support the AfD has ever received in an INSA public opinion poll.

The CDU/CSU result remains unchanged from last week – 25%.

Support for the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) is expressed by 15% of respondents, which is an increase of one percentage point compared to the previous INSA survey.

"The Greens" lose one percentage point of public support, which now amounts to 11%. The same is the share of respondents who say that if the elections were held today, they would vote for "The Left".

The newly established populist party "Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance" and the pro-business Free Democratic Party (FDP) failed to cover the 5% threshold to enter the Bundestag, receiving 4% and 3% respectively.

The poll was conducted among 1,200 eligible voters between September 15 and 19.
