Tokayev defines the war in Ukraine as an "extremely complex conflict" and expresses the opinion that "historical discussions" hinder the resolution of "territorial issues".
Earlier, Kazakhstan was proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a platform for negotiations. The Kremlin responded that Kiev had proposed "a huge number of countries" for a meeting of leaders and "first focused not on Kazakhstan, but on those countries that are absolutely unacceptable" for the Russian Federation.
