EU leaders are not planning to call on the US to impose sanctions on Hungary and Slovakia over their purchases of gas and oil from Russia, the European Union's top diplomat, Kaya Kallas, said in an interview with Sky News.
“They can find alternative suppliers to get rid of Russian oil and gas, as President Trump has requested“, she said.
“We have done a lot to get rid of Russian oil and gas. There are several countries that are still buying oil. But America has leverage over them because they are good friends of the US. The neighbours of these countries have also offered alternatives. But in the end, oil and gas from Russia are simply cheaper.“
Kalas added that the current situation, in which some EU member states continue to buy Russian energy resources, “makes her regret“.
