Russia is ready to join a complete global ban on biological weapons, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
He said this in a comment on US President Donald Trump's initiative to use artificial intelligence to verify compliance with the Biological Weapons Convention.
Peskov said Moscow supports the initiative and considers it a positive step towards improving transparency and trust in international arms control.
Trump said in a speech to the UN that he "calls on all nations to join us in ending the development of biological weapons once and for all". He suggested using artificial intelligence to verify compliance with the agreement.
Peskov said Russia welcomed Trump's "very important call" and called it a brilliant initiative.
"Of course, the Russian side is ready to participate in such a process of renunciation, of a general renunciation of biological weapons, and, of course, it would be good to formalize it in some way, again at the international level," he added.
