Trump has not decided yet! The US is preparing airstrikes against members and leaders of Venezuelan drug gangs

The US military is developing operations to combat drug traffickers in Venezuela. The attacks could begin within weeks, NBC News reported, quoted by Focus.

According to four sources, the strikes on Venezuelan territory could take place in the coming weeks, although US President Donald Trump has not yet made a decision.

The plans mainly include drone strikes against members and leaders of drug gangs, as well as against drug production laboratories.

Two of the interlocutors and another official familiar with the discussions claim that the latest US military escalation is partly prompted by the fact that, according to the administration, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is not doing enough to stop the flow of drugs from the country.

Some representatives of the Trump administration are disappointed that the US military escalation has not weakened Maduro's power and has not provoked a noticeable reaction. Meanwhile, the White House has received more criticism than it expected for its strikes on drug-trafficking ships, and the administration is now carefully considering its next steps.

“Trump is prepared to use all elements of American power to stop the flow of drugs into the country and hold those responsible accountable,“ a senior administration official told the television channel.

Maduro has previously denied any connection to drug trafficking and has repeatedly said the United States is trying to remove him from power.
