Russia has lost more than 281,000 soldiers in the first eight months of 2025 alone, according to a document that Ukrainian intelligence says contains leaked Russian official information, Politico reports, "these catastrophic losses are the price Russia is paying for its small achievements on the front".
The document states that 86,744 soldiers have died, 33,966 have disappeared without a trace, 158,529 have been wounded, and another 2,311 have been captured.
Even Russian sources acknowledge the scale of the tragedy. The Mediazona project, in collaboration with the BBC, has already confirmed over 134,000 names of the dead, admitting that the real figures are much higher.
Despite the thousands of dead, Russia has made virtually no progress on the front. According to analysts from Frontelligence Insight, the document appears credible and coincides with their assessments.
"The figures correspond to the expected range“, the group notes, emphasizing that the Russian losses testify to the Kremlin's ruthless conduct of the war.
Ukrainian military intelligence indicates an impressive ratio: for every dead person, there are only 1.3 wounded. For comparison - in most modern wars, this ratio is 1 to 3, which indicates a lack of medical evacuation and complete disregard for the lives of soldiers.
