Russian missile and drone strikes on Ukraine overnight killed at least three people and wounded 17 others, local authorities said, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
In the capital, Kiev, one person was killed and ten wounded in a ballistic missile attack in the early hours of Saturday, said Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev military administration. Three of the injured were hospitalized, Ukraine's state emergency service reported.
A fire broke out in a non-residential building, and elsewhere debris from intercepted missiles fell into the open, damaging windows of nearby buildings, the emergency services reported on Telegram.
"Explosions in the capital. The city is under attack from ballistic missiles," Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram at the time of the attack.
In the Dnepropetrovsk region, two people were killed and seven were injured, the acting regional governor Vladislav Khaivanenko, adding that the strikes damaged residential buildings, private homes, an outbuilding, a shop and at least one car.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia had fired nine missiles and 62 drones, of which Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted four missiles and 50 drones.
The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defenses had shot down 121 Ukrainian drones overnight.
The attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the United States yesterday to expand sanctions on Russian oil from two companies to the entire sector and appealed for his country to be provided with long-range missiles to respond to Russia's strikes.
