The governor of Russia's Belgorod region said on Saturday that Ukraine had hit a dam on a local reservoir, causing damage, the BBC quoted him as saying.
"As a result of the strike by the Ukrainian armed forces, the dam of the Belgorod reservoir was damaged", reported Vyacheslav Gladkov, head of the Belgorod region.
He suggested that the enemy "may attempt another strike and destroy the dam". "If this happens, there will be a threat of flooding of the river floodplain of the Kharkiv region and several streets in our settlements, where approximately 1,000 residents live," he wrote in a post on Telegram.
The governor suggested that residents of the Belgorod region, who are at risk of flooding and have no other options for temporary accommodation, move to temporary accommodation centers. Gladkov listed the villages from which the authorities offer residents to temporarily move to Belgorod.
The Ukrainian side did not comment on the statement of the Belgorod governor. The Belgorod region has been under regular shelling throughout the fall.
Earlier, Telegram channels spread an unofficial version that the dam wall of the Belgorod Reservoir was hit by HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems.
