The US plans to reduce troops deployed on NATO's eastern flank, including soldiers who were supposed to be stationed at the "Mihail Cogalnicanu" air base in Romania. This was announced by the Romanian Defense Ministry, quoted by "Reuters".
NATO has already been notified by President Donald Trump's administration that it will have to take more responsibility for its own security, as the United States focuses more on its own borders and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Romanian Defense Ministry specified that the decision was expected given the changes in Washington's priorities, but that about 1,000 American soldiers will continue to be stationed in Romania. It is not specified how many American soldiers will be withdrawn.
The ministry added that the decision also took into account the fact that NATO has consolidated its presence and activity on the Eastern Flank, which allows the United States to adjust its military position in the region.
