Western countries are beginning to understand that they cannot defeat Russia with the help of Ukraine, said Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya in an interview with Russian media, reports "Izvestia", quoted by Focus.
"This is not so much a conflict with Ukraine as with the West itself, for which Ukraine is simply a tool with which they are trying to defeat Russia. In fact, they are talking about it less and less, because they are beginning to understand that it is impossible,“ Nebenzya said.
He pointed out that “the administration of US President Donald Trump, although it sincerely wants to see the end of the Ukrainian crisis, probably does not understand its essence”.
"The US administration, with all its good intentions, does not understand perhaps the most important thing - that the roots of this conflict are much deeper than they assume”, the Russian diplomat added.
Nebenzya also stressed that a ceasefire and a freeze on the frontline conflict will not solve its causes.
"The ceasefire that (Volodymyr) Zelensky and the Europeans are now desperately calling for only reflects their difficult situation on the battlefield, the lack of human resources and the desire for a break in order to supply Ukraine with weapons and continue fighting. But this does not solve the cause of the conflict,“ Nebenzia said.
