The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk stated at the meeting of the “Crimean Platform“ in Sweden that for Kiev there are three absolute “red lines“ that cannot be crossed in any peace talks, News.bg reports.
According to him, Ukraine will never accept:
-
the official international recognition of territories occupied by Russia;
-
any restrictions on the country's defense capabilities;
-
restrictions on its future international alliances, including membership in the EU and NATO.
Stefanchuk emphasized, that European and Euro-Atlantic integration must be a key element of future security guarantees and be present in any realistic peace plan.
The “Reuters“ agency notes that Ukraine's positions contradict some of the proposals in the 28-point US peace plan presented to Kiev last week. The issues of territorial status, restrictions on armed forces and non-NATO status are controversial.
Ukraine has once again stressed that it is ready to work on diplomatic solutions, but only if they do not affect its sovereignty, defense capability and free choice of international alliances.
