The Russian monopolist Gazprom maintains contacts with the Turkish side on the issue of extending contracts for the supply of Russian natural gas, Interfax reports. The information was confirmed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, answering a question about the future of supplies to Turkey, Focus reports.
The term of Gazprom's current contracts with the Turkish state company Botas expires on December 31, 2025. They provide for the delivery of 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year via the “Blue Stream“ and 5.75 billion cubic meters - via the “Turkish Stream“. In addition, Gazprom's current agreements with some private Turkish importers will also expire at the end of 2025 - beginning of 2026.
After the expiration of the transit contract between Gazprom and Naftogaz on January 1, 2025 for the transit of Russian gas to Europe, as well as the termination of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline and the shutdown of Nord Stream, supplies via Turkey remain the only channel for Russian pipeline gas to enter the European market.
According to reports, Gazprom has been trying to discuss with the Turkish side the prospects for continuing supplies since April. In early November, it became clear that the company aims to maintain supplies to Turkey at about 22 billion cubic meters of gas per year, although market experts have expressed doubts about the feasibility of this plan.
