Half of Kiev's territory left without electricity after Russian attack - 1

About half of the territory of the Ukrainian capital Kiev was left without electricity today after Russian attacks on the country's energy system, the Energy Ministry announced, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

„The situation in Kiev remains one of the most difficult – "Currently, up to 50% of consumers in the capital are without electricity," the ministry wrote on the Telegram app.

Russia has sharply increased both the number and intensity of its attacks on Ukrainian gas and energy infrastructure in recent months, targeting power plants and transmission systems, Reuters reported.

Ukraine has three nuclear power plants that generate more than 50% of its electricity, but they have been forced to reduce production due to damaged power lines.

The power shortage has forced the main energy operator, Ukrenergo, to limit supplies to consumers, leaving entire regions in the dark. The power outages have also affected heating and water supplies.

Residents of Kiev and the region around the Ukrainian capital have been receiving electricity for just 10 hours a day for the past week.
