Relatives of the dead and injured in the tragic fire in a bar in the resort of Crans Montana organized a memorial march in the Swiss town of Lutry on Saturday, BTA reported.
The event was held with a call for justice for the victims of the incident that occurred on New Year's Eve, and brought together relatives, friends and sympathetic citizens from the area where some of the dead and injured are from.
A total of 40 people died in the fire, most of whom were minors, and 116 were injured, also mostly young people. The investigation found that the fire was caused by “fountain“ candles, attached to bottles, which set fire to the soundproofing of the ceiling in the establishment. The two owners of the bar, a French couple, were investigated in the case.
During Saturday's march, participants carried white flowers as a symbol of remembrance and respect. White ribbons with messages in memory of the dead were tied to the fence of the local stadium in Lutry, turning the space into an improvised memorial to one of the worst tragedies in Switzerland in recent years.
