The idea itself is repulsive - buying people is not a matter of money, but of culture. This was commented by Greenland's Minister of Natural Resources Naja Nathanaelse in the BTV studio regarding US President Donald Trump's intention to buy Greenland.
According to her, the US interest in the island is not surprising, because it has been for many years. The way the topic was raised is surprising, because people are not for sale as a commodity, the minister pointed out.
Naja Nathanaelse refused to comment on how the dialogue in the working group between Denmark, the US and Greenland is going.
When asked whether the island feels threatened by Russia and China, Nathanaelse said that they do not feel threatened, but they realize that both countries have an interest in the Arctic. According to her, Greenland and the EU must take measures together.
She stressed, however, that there is currently no military threat and a balance must be found, they must be prepared, but not react to a military threat that does not currently exist, Nathanaelse emphasized.
Greenland does not want to heat up the rhetoric when there is no immediate threat, she added.
