Another group of Russian and Ukrainian children reunited with their families through the mediation of US first lady Melania Trump, the White House said in a statement today, adding that negotiations with both sides in the conflict are continuing, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The White House did not specify the number of children and where their transfer took place, but added that this is the third time the American first lady has mediated for such an exchange.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's Special Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova said today that six more children have been reunited with their families in Russia and Ukraine, and highlighted the merit of the US first lady for this.
One child will return home to Russia, and five more will be reunited with their families in Ukraine, Lvova-Belova added.
The US first lady wrote to Russian President Putin in August about the plight of Ukrainian children separated from their families by the war. Ukraine accuses Russia of abducting thousands of children, something Moscow denies.
Lvova-Belova wrote in a post on "Telegram" that she thanked Melania Trump for "her unwavering commitment and active participation in reuniting children with their families."
