Russian President Vladimir Putin today called the death of Iran's Supreme Leader - Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - and members of his family "cynical" murder, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
According to him, it violates both the norms of human morality and international law.
"Please accept my deepest condolences in connection with the murder of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and members of his family, committed with a cynical violation of the norms of human morality and international law", Putin said in an address to his Iranian counterpart, Massoud Pezeshkian, distributed by the Kremlin.
Eighty-six-year-old Khamenei was killed in an air strike as part of the Israeli and US attacks on Iran that began yesterday.
"Khamenei will be remembered as an outstanding statesman, with a huge personal contribution to friendly Russian-Iranian relations, which he raised to the level of comprehensive strategic partnership," said the Russian state head.
