Greece will support Bulgaria with air defense assets and personnel, which will be deployed in Northern Greece and will cover a large part of the Bulgarian territory, said today the Minister of National Defense of Greece Nikos Dendias, quoted by ANA-MPA.
He specified that this will be done at the request of the Bulgarian side, made yesterday.
Dendias specified that, by decision of the Greek Governmental Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense, a Greek “Patriot“ battery will be deployed in a suitable area in Northern Greece in the coming hours, which will provide anti-missile defense to a large part of the territory of Bulgaria.
In addition, a pair of F-16 fighters will be deployed at an airport in Northern Greece with the exclusive task of providing additional protection to Bulgaria.
Also, two senior Greek air force officers will be seconded to Sofia for coordination with the Bulgarian military command.
The Greek Minister of Defense also announced that he will visit Sofia next week at the invitation of his Bulgarian counterpart Atanas Zapryanov.
