The Prime Ministers of Britain and Italy - Keir Starmer and Giorgia Meloni, as well as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, have agreed to work together on various options to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iranian threats, ANSA reported, quoted by BTA.
"Downing Street" reported that the leaders agreed on this during separate talks between Starmer and the other two heads of government.
„The Prime Minister spoke last night with the leaders of Germany and Italy about the situation in the Middle East. Discussing the Strait of Hormuz, they agreed that “freedom of navigation through these waters is vital”, the British government said in a statement.
The leaders “agreed to work together in the coming days in light of Iranian threats. Prime Minister Starmer outlined the UK's current defence measures in the region in support of our Gulf partners”, the statement said.
