The US Embassy in Baghdad has warned of a "kidnapping risk" of American citizens in Iraq, where pro-Iranian Iraqi factions threaten Washington's interests in the region in the midst of the war in the Middle East, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
"Iran and its allied terrorist militias pose a serious threat to public security in Iraq", the diplomatic mission said on its website in an updated statement.
"These groups have attacked and may continue to attack American companies and energy infrastructure operated by the United States", the statement said, adding: "Americans are also at risk of kidnapping."
For several days, the United States has been urging all its citizens to leave the Middle East, where it launched a joint offensive with Israel against Iran on February 28, AFP noted.
