At least 11 suspects were killed in northern Mexico as part of a security operation targeting the "Los Mayos" faction of the country's powerful "Sinaloa" cartel, Reuters reported, citing the country's Navy.
Omar Osvaldo Torres, also known as "El Patas", leader of "Los Mayos", was detained during the operation, the Navy said.
Officials did not identify any of those killed in the operation. The Navy said its personnel were attacked after arriving at the scene in the state Sinaloa, after which “in accordance with the legal framework, they repelled the attack“.
The Navy also said it had found the daughter of a crime boss during the operation, but she was released after it was determined that she had no links to criminal activity. Weapons were seized from the scene of the operation.
Last month, Nemesio Oseguera, also known as “El Mencho“ - the leader of the “New Generation Jalisco“ cartel, was killed during an operation in northern Mexico.
