Thirteen people died in a head-on collision between a minibus and a truck on the Arequipa-Puno highway in the south of Peru, the newspaper „Diario Correo“ reports, citing local police.
The accident occurred at kilometer 178 of the highway in the area of San Antonio de Chuca in the department of Arequipa. According to the newspaper, 11 people died on the spot.
Two more victims died on the way to the hospital.
Police in the department of Arequipa and the prosecutor's office are investigating the causes of the incident.
Traffic on the section of the highway is restricted.
