US President Donald Trump in turn criticized Friedrich Merz after the German Chancellor's statements that the US president is escalating the conflict in the Middle East with his actions, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Referring to Merz, last night Trump again criticized Germany for the lack of support for Washington in securing the Strait of Hormuz.
During his speech at a conference in Miami, Florida, Trump first attacked NATO allies France and Britain, and then focused on Germany.
"Friedrich, the German Chancellor, said "This is not our war". "It's not our war in Ukraine, but we're helping (the Ukrainians)," the US president said.
The exchange of remarks between Washington and Berlin has heated up in recent days, DPA reports.
On Thursday, Trump said he found it "inappropriate" for high-ranking German officials to say that the war with Iran "is not theirs," the agency recalls, explaining that this was first stated, that on the German side it was first stated by Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
