Federal Security Service (FSB) officers prevented a terrorist act in Moscow against one of the high-ranking leaders of the law enforcement system, TASS reported, quoted by BTA.

The Ukrainian Security Service (USS) planned to detonate an improvised explosive device by remote control during his visit to a business center, the FSB press center reported.

The target of the revealed attack was not specified.

"The Federal Security Service in Moscow prevented a high-profile terrorist act planned by the USS against one of the high-ranking leaders of the law enforcement system“.

"It was discovered an electric scooter parked next to the entrance to the business center, in the trunk of which was a powerful homemade explosive device. The OSS planned to detonate the device remotely during a visit to the specified business center, identifying the target through organized video surveillance, the FSB added.

As the press center emphasized, the activation of the explosive device "could have resulted in a large number of casualties among the civilian population."

The electric scooter, equipped with a bomb disguised as a household charging station, was discovered "during the course of carrying out measures to protect critically important and strategic objects, ensuring the safety of military personnel, law enforcement officers and government officials."

At the scene of the incident, FSB pyrotechnicians seized an explosive device consisting of 1.5 kg of plastic explosive, striking elements in the form of bolts and nuts, controlled via a wireless smart relay and an Internet modem, the press center reported.

"Similar tactics were used by the enemy "in the commission of a terrorist act using an improvised explosive device placed on an electric scooter, as a result of which the Chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of Russia, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, and his assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, died," the FSB stressed.

An investigation has been launched to search for the persons involved in placing the explosive device and to bring them to criminal responsibility.
