The Iranian armed forces have rejected a new ultimatum from US President Donald Trump, Agence France-Presse reported.
Trump called for the Strait of Hormuz to be unblocked within 48 hours or all hell will fall on Iran. But the Iranian armed forces said such threats were foolish.
"The aggressive and belligerent US president, after suffering successive defeats, has started in a helpless, unstable, nervous and foolish way to threaten Iran's infrastructure and assets," said General Ali Abdollahi, head of the Iranian forces' command, quoted by Iranian state television.
The president US President Donald Trump said that many senior Iranian military officials were killed in an air strike, Agence France-Presse reported, citing a post he made on his social media account "Truth Social", accompanied by a video showing nighttime explosions.
"Many of Iran's military leaders, who have ruled incompetently and recklessly, have been destroyed, along with much else, in this massive strike on Tehran!“, Trump wrote.
The video, just over a minute long, shows a nighttime cityscape and a series of explosions in the distance. The video is undated and it is not clear which town is visible in it.
Several leaders of the Islamic Republic have been killed in Iran since the start of the war, including its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former head of the International Atomic Energy Agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei has called for a halt to the "madman" Donald Trump, AFP reported.
ElBaradei accused Trump of turning the Middle East into a "fireball".
“To the Gulf governments: once again, please do everything in your power before this madman turns the region into a fireball“, ElBaradei wrote in Ex in Arabic.
In another post in English on the same social network, the former IAEA chief quoted Trump's message in which he gave Iran until Monday to reach an agreement or reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, otherwise he would "unleash all hell".
“Can't anything be done to stop this madness?!“, ElBaradei said, addressing the United Nations, the governments of China and Russia, the European Council and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Mohamed ElBaradei, an 83-year-old former Egyptian statesman, headed the IAEA from 1997 to 2009, a period during which he led key negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program. In 2005, he and his organization were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
