After the election of US President Donald Trump, a “Golden Age“ in relations between Hungary and the United States has begun, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Vance is visiting Budapest just days before Hungary's parliamentary elections, scheduled for April 12. According to polls, Orban could lose power after 16 years at the helm of the country.
During his visit to Hungary, the US vice president said that “bureaucrats in Brussels“ have tried to damage Hungary's economy and energy independence by opposing Orban.
At a joint press conference with Orban, Vance called his visit "one of the worst examples of foreign interference in an election".
„The bureaucrats in Brussels tried to destroy Hungary's economy. They tried to make Hungary less energy independent. They tried to increase costs for Hungarian consumers. "And they did all this because they hate this man," Vance stressed, referring to Orban.
US Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife Usha arrived in Hungary this morning for an official visit, the Hungarian MTI news agency reported.
The vice president, who will be on a two-day visit to Budapest, was welcomed at the "Liszt Ferenc" International Airport with military honors by Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
During the visit, Vance will hold talks with Prime Minister Viktor Orban before delivering speeches at a rally called "Hungarian-American Friendship Day" at a congress hall in Budapest.
According to Szijjarto, Vance's arrival demonstrates that relations between Washington and Budapest have entered a new "golden era," Reuters reported.
