Sweden is ready to contribute to opening the Strait of Hormuz - 1

Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said that the two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran is good news, reports Swedish television SVT, quoted by BTA.

The temporary ceasefire, achieved after important mediation efforts, mainly by Pakistan, could create conditions for the restoration of free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, Stenergard said in a post on the "Ex" platform.

“Sweden is ready to contribute to this (the opening of the Strait of Hormuz) in an appropriate way, including finding political solutions,“ she wrote.

Along with free navigation, she stressed the need to work on a longer-term solution that “prevents Iran from develops nuclear weapons, poses a security threat in the region and carries out destabilizing actions against neighboring countries and in the West“, the minister notes.

“Ensuring freedom of navigation, which is fundamental to the functioning of world trade, is in the interest of many countries, including Sweden. For this reason, we will participate in a forum together with about 30 countries at the initiative of the United Kingdom to discuss the conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz“, adds Stenergard.
