Iran may open the Strait of Hormuz in a limited and controlled manner at the end of the week, ahead of the upcoming meeting between US and Iranian representatives in Pakistan, a senior Iranian official said, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
According to him, the possible opening will depend on reaching an agreement on the framework for negotiations.
“If an agreement is reached, the strait can be opened in a limited manner, under Iran's control“, the official said.
He added that all ships would have to coordinate their passage with the Iranian military, stressing that the truce remains fragile.
“We prefer lasting peace, but Iran is not afraid to return to war if the US takes this approach path“, he added.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil supplies, and any restriction or control on passage through it has a direct impact on global energy markets.
